The "First" Annual Snake Avoidance Training Clinic was a huge success. Eighteen dogs were put through the training. Not just bird dogs, but Dobermans, and Australian Shepherds, also. We would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Tillmin Welch for allowing us to hold this clinic at their ranch.
Native South Texas Western Diamond Back Rattlesnake used in the training
Professional dog trainer and King Ranch quail hunting guide, Luther Young, preparing the snake's mouth. The snake can strike but cannot bite.
Here's A.K.C. junior handler and South Texas Border Kennel Club member, Kaitlyn Sanchez, and one of her conformation Brittanys going through the training.
The successful result! A dog that heads in the opposite direction when a snake is encountered.

"Curiosity" Natural curiosity takes over and the dog goes in to check out the snake.
"The Bad Experience" Once the dog has the encounter with the snake, the trainer administers a stimulation by the electronic collar.
"The End Result" The dog avoids the snake and will not even make eye contact.
